A Federal High Court in Lagos has handed down a six-month jail sentence without the option of a fine to celebrity crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky.
Bobrisky, the crossdresser, was found guilty on April 5 by Justice Abimbola Awogboro for the offence of abusing and mutilating Naira notes.
The verdict comes after Bobrisky's arrest, subsequent arraignment and guilty plea to charges of abuse and mutilation of the Naira brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Delivering the judgement, Justice Awogboro emphasized that the sentence aims to deter others from engaging in similar acts of abusing and defacing the nation's currency.
The judge specified that the jail term is effective from March 24, 2024, the day Bobrisky was apprehended.
