The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari over his inability to tackle insecurity and other socio-economic challenges confronting Nigeria.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Tex Okechukwu told Nigeria Info in Onitsha that the two major political parties in the country, the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party, have failed Nigerians.

“Look at the situation of things in the country now, you don't need to be told, that PDP and APC have failed, they have not succeeded in doing anything. Everybody is complaining today,” he complained.

Mr. Okechukwu proffered a solution.

“APGA is coming to take over from them and address some of these challenges,” he said.

When asked about APGA’s position on the clamour that the 2023 presidential seat be zoned to the South East region, Okechukwu said the party is a national party that is ready to present a presidential candidate for the election.

“We have a presidential aspirant, Justice Peter Umeadi (retd). He is an Igbo man from the South East, we are ready to take over.

“APGA is not particularly regional as they continue to describe it. APGA is a national party, and it’s going to take over, we have a lot of people in the houses of assembly, house of reps, and different parts of the country,” the party’s spokesperson boasted.

He condemned the rising insecurity in the South East region which has led to the deaths of tens of people in 2022.

Okechukwu lamented the situations in Anambra and Imo States, where security operatives have become the major targets of the attacks.

He also repeated the call by Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, on separatist groups to come out of forests, surrender their arms and accept amnesty.

“These things are a result of hunger. They’re not meeting up to their expenses, so they pick arms, but the unfortunate thing is that innocent people are dying, people who are not even the government or responsible for their problems.

“Now, Soludo said come let us discuss so that we can help you, come out from the bushes and surrender your arms, you don't need to kill people, the persons you are killing do not help solve your problems.”

Mr. Okechukwu commended the Anambra State government for setting up the Truth, Justice and Peace Committee to unravel the true cause of the armed struggle in the South East.

“With the steps government has taken, definitely there must be result. Definitely,” he said.

He also said illegal revenue collection at motor parks and markets in the state was a contributor to insecurity in the state, hence its suspension.
