The governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu is sending a message of caution to his party, the All Progressives Congress.
He’s asking the APC to thread the path of equity by ensuring that the Southern part of Nigeria produces the next president.
The governor made this call in a self-signed statement released on his verified Twitter handle Tuesday morning.
According to him, APC must not consider throwing the contest open as he urges the leadership of the party to speak out on the matter immediately.
This call by Gov. Akeredolu might not be unconnected to the rumour that the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan wants to declare his interest to run for Nigeria’s number one job.
In the statement titled: OUR PARTY, APC, MUST THREAD THE PATH OF EQUITY, Gov. Akeredolu is asking the party not to leave members of the APC guessing.
”We must not keep our party men and women guessing on the position of the leadership of the party. This is the time to weigh in and take control of the process”.
Arakunrin Akeredolu who is also the chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum insists that “no statement must suggest, even remotely, that the party harbours certain sentiments which may predispose it to consider throwing the contest open. This is certainly not the time for equivocation. EQUITY DICTATES THAT WE TAKE A STAND.”
The statement also quotes him as saying, “The party leadership should have no difficulty in making a pronouncement on this very important issue, just as it has fixed various fees for the purchase of forms.”
