A conversation about deterring gang associations in Rivers State got callers sharing varying opinions on Nigeria Info’s Hello Port Harcourt.
This discussion follows a recent report of gang criminal activity around Ojoto near New Mile 1 Hospital, Diobu.
One caller questioned the effectiveness of the police in combating gang activities in Rivers State, stating, “If you don’t report a matter to the police station, they will turn a blind eye.”
Another caller from the Ogbologbo community expressed distress, saying, “Our paramount ruler is scared of those boys... we don't know, we are confused.”
He lamented the community's helplessness in the wake of gang activities occurring in the Ahoada-West local government area.
Meanwhile, another caller proposed solutions to tackle this menace. He emphasised the urgent need for interventions in the education sector, addressing unemployment, and sensitisation efforts led by religious leaders. He believes these measures will help put an end to gang violence in the state.
