A riot had erupted at the Port Harcourt Correctional Center on April 11th after an inmate was confirmed dead. The inmate reportedly died after punishment from a senior inmate.
Speaking on Hard Facts with Dayo, Chairperson of FIDA, Rivers state, Adata Bio Briggs condemned the incident saying the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre has abandoned its duty of correcting and rehabilitating inmates in other to prepare them for reintegration into society after serving jail time.
Briggs who berated the conditions at the correctional centres stated further that its body (FIDA) have also received unconfirmed reports of sodomny and homosexuality taking place in the cells which she said may have led to a rival war that caused the sad incident.
Briggs therefore called for further investigation into the matter as she suspects a cover up by the prison authority.
