As the planned August 1 nationwide protest approaches, residents of Rivers State have expressed their views on participating, especially after a Caretaker Committee (CTC) Chairman declared that he would not permit any protests in his locality.

On Nigeria Info’s Hard Facts, a caller questioned the CTC Chairman's stance, expressing confusion over the refusal to allow the protest in the local government area. He also raised concerns about the protest lacking a clear leadership or ‘face,’ which might affect its organisation and impact.

Another caller voiced support for the protest, stating that it would provide an opportunity for citizens to express their frustrations, saying political officeholders have misused their offices.

“Instead of them to become servants, they become emperors,” he said.

A third caller directed his appeal to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, urging him to demand accountability from the CTC Chairmen and ensure they allow the democratic right to protest.
