With local government elections in Rivers State approaching, speculation is growing over whether certain candidates have already been handpicked for key positions.
Gogo Wellington, the Labour Party spokesperson in Rivers State, shared his views on this matter during an interview on Nigeria Info’s Hard Facts, stating that there is no cause for concern yet.
“We are waiting to see that the election itself will be conducted in a way and manner that shows fairness and that a level playing ground is given to all parties involved,” he said.
He also suggested that it is normal for political parties to go through their own internal processes of selecting and nominating candidates for elections, and should maintain a level of mutual respect unless there are valid reasons to challenge or criticise one another.
