Are Nigerian students losing faith in education?

Following the release of the 2024 JAMB results, education expert Benjamin Nyewusira has raised concerns about a worrying trend that may be taking a toll on education in Nigeria.

Speaking on Nigeria Info’s Hard Facts, he shed light on the practical hurdles many students encounter in the examination process, as he recounted the arduous task of locating his daughter's JAMB mock centre.

Nyewusira stressed that in Nigeria, "the educational system is on trial” highlighting a "very wrong narrative" gaining traction - the notion that "education is a scam".  He voiced concern about this growing misconception that formal education is a futile endeavour, lamenting its potential consequences on the country's educational system.

He also revealed that the government can make education more appealing to Gen Zs and ‘TikTokers’ in Nigeria by infusing “simulation, something that can arouse interest”.
