The purported division in the PDP that the defected Rivers State legislators cited is insufficient justification for their defection, constitutional lawyer Prof. Ritchard Wokocha has said.

Prof. Wokocha who was a guest on Nigeria Info FM’s Hard Facts said the organs of the party are still functional, and there are no rival factions of the Board of Trustees, National Executive Council, or officers of the party.

He said “The fact that there is a dispute over one officer, but which has not divided the party into factions that you can identify” does not imply a division or crises in the party but only indicates conflicting interests, which he says is a normal occurrence in political parties.

He also added: “If the death of a secretary will not cause the party to stop functioning, dispute over who will be secretary will not mean that the party has stopped functioning or has become divided in the manner that the Supreme Court describes.”
