As more Nigerians react to the arrest of Aminu Adamu Mohammed, a student of the Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State, civil society organisations including the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Projects, SERAP have demanded the release of Aminu who was allegedly arrested on the orders of the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari over a tweet.
SERAP’s Deputy Director Kolawole Oluwadare tells Dayo Elusakin on Nigeria Info’s Hard Facts, that the said tweet by Aminu, allegedly criticising the First Lady does not amount to committing a crime. He condemned his continued detention by the Police, saying it is a breach of Aminu’s fundamental rights.
Mr. Kolawole noted that what’s obtainable according to the law; in a situation where an individual or public officer feels defamed, is for the individual to seek legal redress in court.
