The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has defended its request for N305 billion to conduct the 2023 elections, saying it would be used to meet various needs that are crucial to conducting an effective election.
Speaking on Morning Crossfire on Monday, INEC’s National Commissioner, Festus Okoye, said that part of the money will renovate some INEC state and local offices that were burnt during the ENDSARS protest by unknown gunmen.
Speaking further, Okoye explained that the newly introduced Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) was also another endeavor that will gulp money as the commission needs at least 200,000 of the BVAS machine to service all the polling units across the country.
He also mentioned some other projects that INEC will embark on that will require the money it has requested for.
