Heavy downpours in Lagos State stopped many workers from getting to work on time on Wednesday morning.
And that was for the residents who braved the roads at all. Most parts of Lekki on the Lagos island were flooded, with people sharing photos and videos on social media. Some persons, stuck at home, shared photos of their flooded residential estates.
Some parts of Yaba, Surulere, Ikeja, and Gbagada on the mainland were also flooded. The floods were not restricted to the island and mainland but disrupted movement on the Third Mainland Bridge, the major bridge connecting both parts of Lagos.
This is one of the comments on the post above:
“I’m stuck there for 3 hrs since 6 am.. it’s 9 am right now.. I’m so pissed π‘”
When it rains heavily in Lagos, not only are people unable to drive their vehicles to their destinations, but there is also usually a hike in fares.
Please let me adjust my advice. If you live in Lagos, do not even consider coming out of your house today. Everywhere is flooded. I didnβt expect it to be this bad on the mainland. Flooded and all the roads are blocked in any direction. https://t.co/9D1yeRH2EG

Many Lagosians, unable to make it to work, started posting with the endearment, “Dear HR” and hashtag #DearHR, leaving many human resource persons with no choice but to allow their staff to work from home.
Many X users have been making jokes about their plight and pleading with their HR departments to be absent from work due to the floods.
After going through all these rain flood stress(especially in Gbagada), only to get to work and discovered our Dear HR has already said we should work from home today..

The flood made it unbearable for me to be at work today.
In your infinite mercy, I ask that you face the other way.
Your workaholic staff.

As I left the house I couldnβt believe the amount of flood that surrounded the area, I struggled to swim and finally hopped into a vehicle only to get stuck in the middle of the flood! As I type this message I think the water is taking me back home. π’

One of your employees will not be coming to the Lekki office today because there is rain and once there is rain in Lekki that area will be in a state of emergency π¨
Yours faithfully
Mayowa

The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources has been responding to posts on X regarding flood complaints.
The Olopo Meji inward 3rd Mainland situation is a flash flood that is due to the high intensity of the rain, long duration rain coupled with high tidal lagoon level at the moment. Be rest assured it would go away in about 1-2hour. As the high tidal level of the lagoon goes down,β¦ https://t.co/POhRjOfGW1
