Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja has refused to admit the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to bail.
In her ruling on Wednesday, the trial judge held that the court must first determine the real reason Mazi Kanu jumped bail in 2017 before he could apply for a new one.
Kanu was re-arraigned by the Federal Government on an amended six-count charge of treasonable felony.
The amendment came same day trial judge, Justice Nyako fixed to hear an application Kanu filed to be released on bail, pending the determination of the charge against him.
Justice Nyako had on 8 April struck out eight out of the 15-count treasonable felony charge preferred against the defendant by the Federal Government.
The judge held that the charges were repetitions that did not disclose any offence that could be sustained by evidence.
Recall that the IPOB leader was re-arrested and brought back to Nigeria from Kenya, in controversial circumstances in 2021, after he had jumped bail and fled the country in 2017.
