President Bola Tinubu will not attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York this year.
Announcing this in a five-paragraph statement on Thursday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said President Tinubu, who returned to Nigeria last Sunday after a visit to China and the United Kingdom, wants to concentrate on domestic matters, especially the devastating flooding in Borno State.
He has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to deliver Nigeria's national statement to the General Assembly at UNGA 79.
Shettima will also attend important sideline events and bilateral meetings.
The high-level General Debate is tagged "Leaving no one behind: Acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations."
It will run from the 24th to the 28th of September.
