President Bola Tinubu has ordered a review of his government’s conditional cash transfer program for the transfer of N8,000 to vulnerable households to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
This follows widespread concerns by Nigerians about the scheme and how far the money can go.
The president equally directed the unveiling of the entire palliative package of government to Nigerians and the immediate release of fertilizer and grains to approximately 50 million farmers and households in all 36 states and the FCT.
Presidential spokesman, Dele Alake, said in a statement that President Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the N500 billion approved by the National Assembly to cushion the pain occasioned by the end of the subsidy regime will be judiciously utilized.
He further assured that there would be no ethnic, religious, or political discrimination when choosing the beneficiaries of the reliefs.
President Tinubu explained that decisions taken so far by his administration have buttressed his total commitment to uplifting the general well-being of Nigerians.
Last week, the federal government proposed to give 12 million low-income households N8,000 monthly for six months, in addition to other palliatives to help ease the effects of the removal of subsidy on petrol.
