Six Million Meters will be Deployed in H1 2023 -Power Ministry

The federal government says six million meters will be deployed nationwide in the first half of 2023.

This is contained in a December 2022 review of the performance of the power sector by the Federal Ministry of Power.

The government says one million meters were distributed in the first phase of its National Mass Metering Programme, which had input from the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.

The first phase generated 10,000 jobs in installation and assembly, according to the Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu.

He is projecting the creation of 20,000 more jobs in the second phase.

The minister is, in addition, promising additional 4,000 Megawatts of power in 2023.

Some of it would come from the completion and inauguration of the 700MW Zungeru hydropower plant in the first quarter, and the operationalization of the 240MW Afam III and 300MW Okpai Phase II.
