Protest: Flying of Foreign Flags Treasonable - Defence Chief

The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), Christopher Musa said that flying foreign flags within the nation while participating in #EndBadGovernance protests is treasonous.

Musa made his remarks on Monday shortly after his meeting at the State House in Abuja with President Bola Tinubu.

This was observed on the first day of the protest in Kano, protesters waved Russian flags, urging President Vladimir Putin to intervene in the country.

Local protest organizers were forced to call off the march early on Sunday after a group of demonstrators carrying Russian and Japanese flags arrived in Jos, the capital of the Plateau.

The most recent set of flags was observed in Abuja, Kano, and Kaduna on Monday.

Musa said people caught with the foreign flags will face treason charges.

“We are warning in clear terms, and the president has also said we should convey this: that we will not accept anybody, any individual flying any foreign flag in Nigeria.

“That is a treasonable offense, and it will be viewed and treated as such.

“So, nobody should allow himself to be used by any individual,” he said.

According to him, the president has made it quite clear that they are not to accept anyone who seeks to disturb Nigeria's peace.

“And we are all standing here together to show Nigerians that we’re working closely; we are working together with synergy to ensure that there’s still peace and tranquility in Nigeria, we have assured Mr. President,” he added.
