Over 400,000 People Displaced, 30 Killed in Maiduguri Disaster - NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says the flooding in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, has resulted in over 400,000 people being displaced and over 30 dead.

Tuesday saw thousands of people leave their homes as floods devastated parts of Maiduguri, including Fori, Galtimari, Gwange, and Bulabulin.

The incident elicited widespread sympathy for the people of the state.

The Borno government opened up internally displaced persons (IDP) camps across the state.

On Thursday, NEMA spokesperson, Manzo Ezekiel said the flood caused the displacement of approximately 400,000 people.

Ezekiel reported that over 100,000 individuals were residing in IDP camps.

The NEMA representative further said the organization and its partners were working to assist the victims by ensuring their safe return to their houses after the floodwaters subside.
