Minimum Wage Takes Effect April 1 - Onyejeocha

The federal government has assured Nigerian workers that implementing the new national minimum will start from 1 April.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment gave the assurance during the commemoration of Workers’Day in Abuja on Wednesday.

Nkeiruka Onyejeocha reminded workers that a 37-person tripartite committee on the minimum wage was established on 30 January 2024, marking a significant step toward improving the welfare of Nigerian workers.

She stated that this group was charged with proposing a reasonable national minimum wage that considers the shift in the economic situation.

She added that the government was open to the committee's recommendation to go from a minimum wage to a livable wage.

The minister reaffirmed the government's dedication to prioritizing worker demands and goals at the top of the national agenda.
