Super Eagles’ winger Ademola Lookman put up a performance of a lifetime to win his club, Atalanta, the Europa League on Wednesday night.
His hat trick was all the Italian side needed to defeat Bayer Leverkusen’s Invincibles in the final to end a 61-year title drought.
Lookman scored in the 12th, 26th, and 75th minutes in the Dublin Arena as the Bergamo side handed Bundesliga champions Leverkusen a first-season defeat in 52 matches across all competitions.
It gave Atalanta its first trophy since its Coppa Italia success in 1963, and Italy its first title in Europe’s second-tier event in 25 years, since Parma won in 1999, then the UEFA Cup.
At a post-match press conference, Lookman said he had always been confident in his goal-scoring ability.
