Jandor’s Defection: Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish – Olabode George

A prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Chief Bode George, has labeled the defection of the party’s Lagos governorship candidate in the 2023 election as "good riddance to bad rubbish."

In an exclusive interview with Jimi Disu on Nigeria Info's Daily Digest, Chief George recounted how the candidate, Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (also known as Jandor), was introduced to the PDP by a key APC member and was accepted based on recommendations.

However, he regretted the party’s decision to select Jandor as its gubernatorial candidate in Lagos overGbadebo Rhodes-Vivor, who was in the PDP before leaving for the Labour Party.

“We stumbled into him through an older person, a responsible, respected leader who brought him, and something unusual. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivor was in the forefront,” he said.

“In our culture, when the old people tell you this and that, you give them the regard.”

The PDP chieftain and former chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority refused to name the ‘older person’ but said the PDP gave in to his counsel to support Jandor as the party’s candidate.

The veteran politician criticized Jandor's character, describing him as living in a “conundrum of lies.”

He said the PDP would no longer give in to any advice to support a particular candidate to emerge as its flagbearer in any election.

“All of us, the elders in the party, have concluded that from now on, we’re not listening to any input from anybody.

“Let whoever wants to be governor go to the field.”

He also took aim at the APC, asserting that the party was "not a political party, but a private enterprise of one individual," citing the lack of primaries as evidence.

He contrasted this with the PDP, which he emphasized upholds democratic values and respects the people's choice in selecting their leaders.
