JAMB Accuses UTME ‘Highest Scorer’ of Manipulating Result

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has accused a certain Ejikeme Mmesoma of artificially inflating her score and falsely declaring herself as the top scorer for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

According to JAMB, Mmesoma who is from Anambra State, had manipulated her score to secure a N3 million scholarship from Innoson Motors and was about to receive recognition from the Anambra State government before she was exposed.

A statement from the board  partly reads; "The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has taken notice of various publications in both print and online media applauding certain candidates for achieving high scores in the 2023 UTME.

“However, we are compelled to rectify the situation and unequivocally state that many of these candidates' results are fraudulent. In numerous instances, these individuals actually attained significantly lower scores than they claim and resorted to using dubious software programs to manipulate their results, deceiving unsuspecting members of the public.

“One particularly distressing case involved Miss Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, who purportedly scored 362 in the 2023 UTME and was granted a N3 million scholarship by Chief (Dr.) Innocent Chukwuma. She was on the verge of being honored by the Anambra State Government when an official contacted JAMB to verify her claim, only to discover that Miss Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma had actually scored 249 instead of the claimed 362.

“She had deliberately manipulated her UTME result to defraud the public and illicitly obtain scholarships and other forms of recognition.”

JAMB in addition said they will be prosecuting her and withdrawing her original result.

Additionally, the board identified another fraudulent candidate who falsely alleged a total score of 380 in the recent UTME.

“A similar incident occurred with Atung Gerald in Kaduna, who professed to have achieved a score of 380. His ethnic group raised the matter, urging that he be accorded special acknowledgment.

However, the Board disheartened them by presenting irrefutable evidence that Atung never completed the 2023 UTME application process, let alone participate in the examination.'
