The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the collection of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) by eight days.
Nigerians now have until Sunday 29 January to pick up their cards across the country.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the commission on Thursday.
A statement from the chairman of INEC’s information and voter education committee, Festus Okoye, commended Nigerians for the “surge” in the collection of PVCs since it was devolved to wards.
The collection at the wards will now continue until Sunday 22 January and will revert to local governments on Monday 23 January.
Okoye stated that INEC is investigating allegations of extortion and discriminatory issuance of PVCs by its officials
Those found culpable will face disciplinary action or prosecution, he added.
