Group Partners Safety App to Combat Campus Crime, Encourage Student Safety

As a way to curb the issues of insecurity on campuses, the Non-Indigenous Students’ Association of Nigeria (NISAN) and the NauNau SOS personal safety app have urged students in tertiary institutions to be security conscious.

Marketing manager of the safety app, Jane Lemuel, made this known during a one-day Campus-Care program at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, where she said the awareness is aimed at ensuring adequate provisions to make schools safe while using the SOS app and that gift items, including food items and toiletries, were given to students who participated in the program.

“We are actually embarking on a program called campus care in line with safety for students and, of course, provisions of food items for students. So, it’s something that would be going from school to school, creating safety awareness, and of course, creating a little provision for the students.”

The marketing manager also said the SOS personal safety app is capable of helping users navigate insecurity challenges as the app can monitor the live location of its users.

“NauNau SOS app is a personal safety app that you can use in a time of emergency, it could be a health emergency, once you download the app, you add a maximum of five trusted contacts that will get notified when you activate the app, that your emergency contact will see you on the map where you are going to, they will get notified, they will see you actually moving on the map, in case, your known location will be known, in case of kidnap or you don’t get to your destination, they can raise an alarm.” She added

Some students who attended the program also spoke on the benefits of the safety app.

“In the app, you have to have five contacts, closest contacts who are always available. When this app was introduced to this school, I was so happy and it encouraged the students and us who study at night. You can be in a dare situation and then you need help. It helps on how we could recover even our phones if lost. Is not just an app, it's a security app.”
