President Bola Tinubu has commended the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development over the first commercial transaction under the National Gold Purchase Programme (NGPP).
The president made this statement on Sunday in Abuja upon receiving gold bars from Dr. Dele Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals Development, which were sourced from small and artisanal gold miners.
Through the scheme, Nigeria's foreign reserves have increased by $5 million, and the rural economy has received an injection of almost N6 billion.
According to Tinubu, the ministry has made significant progress toward the administration's goal of economic diversification.
“This is another concrete step towards the diversification process under the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the president said.
