Father of 17-Year-Old Cries for Justice Over Fatal Rape

A father of four, Emeka Iwunze is demanding justice for his 17-year-old daughter, Amarachi Iwunze who was found dead after she was allegedly raped by a relative identified as Ifeanyi Osuji.

The incident happened on Sunday at Umuduruewuewuru village, Umuezeala Nsu, in Imo State.

Mr. Iwunze said his daughter’s friend, Theresa, and another person named Uche had invited his teenage daughter to Ifeanyi Osuji’s house where preparations were on for a cloth-wearing ceremony (Igbo traditional rite of passage into manhood).

He told Nigeria Info that another relative raised an alarm after she could no longer find Amarachi.

“My sister called her number and that number responded and it was the voice of a man. She now called the number again. The man said, ‘Why are you disturbing my business?’

“They now discovered that the phone was with that our brother.

“The other girl they are calling Theresa now responded that where my daughter is now is very far, they cannot locate it.

“At the end of the day, we now discovered that one of our brothers searched that building. They discovered a closed room.

“They now broke the door and discovered that my daughter is there. They now went to touch her and discovered that she was dead”.

Mr. Iwunze said 22-year-old Osuji is currently on the run after youths of the village burnt down his house.

He also disclosed that Uche and Theresa who are suspected of collaborating with Osuji are in police custody.

“After what happened, my village people; the youths, and the women gathered and went to burn down the house and other houses that are within that jurisdiction.

“The youths threatened to kill his father if he fails to bring his son. But they did not want to take the law into their hands, so they decided to report to the village elders and refer him to the police for further investigation,” he said.

Residents of the village alleged that Ifeanyi Osuji is an internet fraudster.

The Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Micheal Abattam has confirmed the incident and said an investigation has begun.
