Electricity workers have suspended their nationwide strike for two weeks.
The strike was discontinued Wednesday after a four-hour conciliation meeting with the federal government.
The President-General of the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied workers, Chika Ben told journalists in Abuja that another meeting would take place after the two-week suspension.
“The issues that we have; I thank the honorable Minister and the Minister of State for Power for their maturity in handling these issues that we brought up.
“These issues could have been tackled earlier on if there was the rightful communication with all parties.
“But well, as we have said, we’ve been given two weeks to which to report back to the full house.
“Well, we assure the nation that such a crisis will be nipped in the bud before it escalates,” he said.
The strike by the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) started on Wednesday with the workers picketing the offices of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and staying off work.
This led to a nationwide blackout as the TCN could not transmit power.
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) Plc sent out a statement Wednesday, explaining that operations across its franchise area have been disrupted.
Ikeja Electric and other distribution companies also notified their customers about the disruption in power supply.
NUEE is demanding the payment of the entitlement of former staff of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
