Eden Hazard Retires from Football

Former Belgium captain, Eden Hazard, has announced his retirement from football.

The ex-LOSC Lille, Chelsea, and Real Madrid playmaker called quits on his career in the game which spanned 16 years.

The 32-year-old left Spanish giants, Real Madrid, at the end of last season after 54 league games for the Los Blancos side which he joined back in 2019 from London side, Chelsea for £89m. 

During his time in the Spanish capital, Hazard won numerous titles including the Champions League, a Club World Cup, a European Super Cup, two La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, and two Spanish Super Cups. 

Announcing his retirement in a statement, he said: "You must listen to yourself and say stop at the right time.

"After 16 years and more than 700 matches played, I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer.

"I was able to realize my dream, I have played and had fun on many pitches around the world."

Hazard earlier announced his retirement from international football after being part of the Belgian side that got knocked out of the World Cup group stage in Qatar in 2022.

"During my career, I was lucky to meet great managers, coaches, and teammates — thank you to everyone for these great times, I will miss you all.

"I also want to thank the clubs I have played for: LOSC, Chelsea and Real Madrid; and thanks to the RBFA for my Belgian Selection."

Hazard earned 126 caps and scored 33 times for Belgium.

He was in the national team squad that finished third at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
