The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) arrested over 15 persons during a raid on forests around Jiwa, Dei-Dei, and its environs on Tuesday.
The raid came a week after hoodlums attacked traders at the Dei Dei market and burnt their shops.
Residents of Dei-Dei and the surrounding communities still live in fear that the miscreants who hibernate in the nearby forests could launch more attacks.
The Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection, and Enforcement to the FCT Minister, Ikharo Attah led the raid.
He said it was part of measures to calm the tension that followed the deadly clash at Dei-Dei.
He explained that the operation was also necessitated by public outcry against the activities of scavengers, popularly known as Baban Bolas.
"We got intensive complaints about insecurity around Jiwa axis and communities that have come under attacks by people believed to be baban bolas.
“This area is also notorious as it was the place where two police officers were ambushed and their rifles were taken away before they were later recovered.
"This is why we have to come out today under the directives of the FCT Minister, to clean all the dangerous forests where these people are taking shelter and wreaking havoc on the residents.
“We have arrested over 15 persons,” he said.
The Sarkin Jiwa, HRH Alhaji Idris Musa confirmed that the forests had become home to criminals who disturb the peace of the communities.
A resident of Kagini community, Chidiebere Nwajiuba, also confirmed the notoriety of the scavengers in the area.
He said he had fallen victim several times.
He further alleged that his car had been vandalised, while building materials were stolen from his construction site.
