A bill seeking to restructure the salary and allowance of judicial officers across the country has passed the third reading in the House of Representatives.
President Bola Tinubu had on Tuesday forwarded a letter alongside an executive bill to the House of Representatives, seeking an end to the prolonged stagnation of judicial officers' remuneration.
The 'Judicial Office Holders Salaries and Allowances Bill' aims to "establish clear guidelines for the salaries, allowances, and fringe benefits of judicial officials.
According to the details outlined in the bill, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) will receive a monthly salary of N5.4 million, totalling N64.8 million annually.
The breakdown reveals that the CJN will be granted a monthly basic salary of N1.1 million, alongside N4.3 million in regular allowances.
Further details of the bill revealed that Justices of the Court of Appeal are to earn a total monthly package of N3.73 million, while the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, President of the National Industrial Court, Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, Grand Khadi, FCT Sharia Court of Appeal, President of Customary Court of Appeal, Chief Judge of State High Court and Grand Khadi of State Sharia Court of Appeal and President of State Customary Court of Appeal are to earn a monthly package of N3.53 million.
The bill additionally suggests an annual allocation of N61.4 million for Supreme Court justices.
