Budget Defence: Senate Threatans Police IG, CBN Governor With Bench Warrants

The Senate has threatened to get a bench warrant on the Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, the Central Bank Governor Yemi Cardoso, and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari, for refusing to appear before it during the budget defense sessions.

The chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, Ahmed Wadada, disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday.

Senator Wadada also accused the Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zach Adedeji, and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, of shunning the panel despite several invitations.

He particularly accused the FIRS CEO of shunning eight invitations extended to him, describing the failure of the heads of the government agencies to honor Senate invitations as an affront to the National Assembly and an insult to President Bola Tinubu.

The CEOs were summoned to defend queries against them in several audit reports by the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation (AuGF).
