A 100-year-old female herbalist will be spending some days in detention for allegedly plucking the eye of a 12-year-old boy in Kano State.
A magistrate court ordered the remand of Furera Abubakar and 17-year-old Isah Hassan, accused of aiding the act.
In March, Ms. Abubakar reportedly asked Mr. Hassan to bring a human eye for the preparation of a charm that would enable him “appear and disappear” at will.
At the start of the hearing on Wednesday, the prosecution counsel, Lamido Soron-Dinki, told the court that the defendants lured 12-year-old Mustapha Yunus to a stream where his right eye was removed with a knife. The two are standing trial on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and attempt to commit homicide. The case has been adjourned to April 11.
