Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has revealed that the Integrity Group, commonly referred to as the G5, recently paid a visit to President Bola Tinubu to update the President on the latest developments and the group’s stance for fairness, equity and justice in the country.
Makinde, accompanied by the four other former governors who constitute the G5 visited President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Thursday.
The Oyo Governor speaking to Journalists after the meeting emphasized the challenging nature of nation-building, emphasizing the need for constant evaluation. He expressed the group's intention to continue engaging with the President to chart a way forward for the nation.
Makinde remarked, "Nation-building is an arduous undertaking. It requires ongoing assessment of our actions and objectives. Hence, we must maintain regular contact with the President to keep him informed of current happenings."
"The Integrity Group, also known as the G5, visited the President to reaffirm our principles: fairness, justice, and equity," Makinde added.
It is worth noting that this marks the third visit by Makinde and members of the group to the President within the past week.
Apart from Governor Makinde, the meeting was attended by four former governors from the People's Democratic Party (PDP): Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu). Additionally, the current governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, was present.
The G5 comprises dissatisfied politicians within the PDP who voiced their opposition to the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the party's presidential candidate in the previous elections. Instead, they advocate for power to be returned to Southern Nigeria.
