Nnamdi Azikiwe University Expels Student Who Assaulted Lecturer in Viral Video

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has expelled Precious Mbakwe, the student seen in a viral video assaulting a lecturer.

In an official letter signed by the university registrar, Victor Modebelu, and addressed to Ms. Mbakwe, the institution stated that the student disciplinary committee found her guilty of assaulting Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts.

The letter, titled "Expulsion from Nnamdi Azikiwe University," cited a violation of the Students' Disciplinary Regulations, specifically Regulation 4 (SDR), and confirmed that the expulsion takes immediate effect.

“Consequently, the acting Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the University Senate, has approved the committee’s recommendation for your expulsion. You are hereby expelled from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka,” the letter stated.

The university further instructed Ms. Mbakwe to vacate the campus immediately and return any university property in her possession.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when Mr. Okoye interrupted Ms. Mbakwe while she was recording a video in a university hallway. Video footage shows the third-year History and International Studies student reacting angrily after the lecturer passed by and tapped her while saying, “Excuse me.”

The situation quickly escalated, with Ms. Mbakwe confronting Mr. Okoye and questioning his actions. More footage shows her aggressively engaging the lecturer, tearing the right side of his brown native attire, and physically restraining him.

Despite being attacked, Mr. Okoye did not retaliate. Photos circulating online display deep bite marks on his arms, and another image shows him receiving medical attention, reportedly at the university clinic.
