Lagos State Clamps Down on Okada Riders

The Lagos State Police Taskforce has started clamping down on commercial motorcyclists, commonly known as Okada riders in the Lekki area.

The Taskforce seized 123 motorcycles Monday and will continue the clampdown on Tuesday, according to its chairman, Shola Jejeloye.

The seizures follow last Thursday’s lynching of David Imoh, a sound engineer by okada riders.

Police Arrest Four Suspects

The Lagos State Police Command says it has arrested four persons in connection with the death.

David was beaten and then burnt to death by a mob of okada riders, after a reported fight between him and one of the riders.

Residents and business owners around the Lekki Phase 1 area where David was lynched were apprehensive to speak on the matter when I visited.

Some of them denied being around at the time of the incident while others outrightly said they did not wish to speak on it, to avoid being called in as witnesses.
