Labour Party's Legal Team Meets INEC Officials to Begin Inspection of Electoral Materials

The Labour Party's legal team, led by Dr Livy Uzoukwu, met with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja on Monday to initiate the inspection process of electoral materials used for the February 25 presidential election.

The Labour Party's legal team, led by Dr Livy Uzoukwu, met with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja on Monday to initiate the inspection process of electoral materials used for the February 25 presidential election.

According to INEC in a Facebook post, the Labour Party's legal team was at the commission's headquarters to discuss modalities for obtaining certain documents.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, assured the legal team that the electoral body would provide all the documents requested to prosecute their case.

"We are meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners today and we will discuss how other documents at the state level could also be made available to you speedily," Yakubu said.

"INEC has nothing to hide. Documents available at the HQ will be given immediately."

This move by the Labour Party's legal team to inspect electoral materials follows a court judgement directing the electoral umpire to allow the party inspect the materials used for the February 25 polls. The party is seeking to contest the outcome and process of the recently concluded presidential election.
