Court Strikes Out Eight of 15 Charges Against Nnamdi Kanu

The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out eight of the 15 counts against the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Presiding Judge, Justice Binta Nyako struck out the charges saying they were not valid.

She however added that the remaining seven charges were valid and hence the trial will continue as scheduled.

On the issue of the proscription of IPOB, the judge held that the case was pending before the appeal court and as such, the order proscribing the organisation subsists until it is vacated.

The Judge also fixed May 18 to rule on Mazi Kanu’s bail application.

Meanwhile, the Chief Justice of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho has barred journalists from covering the ongoing trial of the IPOB leader.

He cited security concerns for placing the ban and added that the order will remain in place till further notice.
