Building Collapse: Wike Orders Arrest of Building Owner

The proprietor of the collapsed two-storey building in Abuja now faces imminent arrest, as ordered by Nyesom Wike,

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has ordered the immediate arrest of the owner of the collapsed two-storey building in Abuja.

Wike gave the directive during his on-site assessment of the calamity on Thursday.

Expressing deep regret, he promptly instructed that medical expenses for the injured be swiftly settled.

Recall that tragedy struck on Wednesday night as the building on Lagos Street, Garki 2, crumbled at 11:45 pm, tragically claiming two lives and dozens trapped.

"This is not the outcome we anticipated. I extend my gratitude to the agencies that have collaborated to save over 32 lives. Regrettably, two lives couldn't be saved," Wike said.

Wike emphasized the significance of adhering to construction standards and warned against unauthorized developments.

"Such tragic incidents can affect anyone. When the government enforces building regulations, it's not about personal biases but safeguarding all citizens. Our cities are planned to prevent such calamities," he affirmed.

The FCT minister also expressed frustration about the prolonged resettlement process for natives of Garki village.

He pledged swift action to address their displacement and reevaluate the area's urban planning.

"Our aim is the welfare of all. Government decisions may not always be popular, but they are for the greater good. We stand united to avoid future tragedies," Wike added.
