BREAKING: Appeal Court Discharges Nnamdi Kanu, Clears Him of all Terrorism Charges

The Appeal Court in Abuja, on Thursday, discharged and acquitted the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

The Justice Hanatu Sankey-led 3-man panel of justices held that the Federal High Court lacks the jurisdiction to try him given his 'abduction and extraordinary rendition to Nigeria' which violates the OAU convention and protocol of extradition.

In their ruling, they discharged and cleared Kanu of all terrorism charges brought against him by the Federal Government.

Kanu approached the Appeal Court seeking to quash terrorism charges brought against him by the government.

Counsel to Kanu faulted the order of Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court, Abuja, which ordered him to answer seven out of the 15-count terrorism charge against him.

Among other things, Kanu prayed on the appellate court to quash the entire charges and set him free on various grounds.

Kanu was renditioned from Kenya to Nigeria in June 2021 and has remained in detention since then while facing a treason charge preferred against him by the Federal Government.

The government has denied that Kanu was renditioned, claiming he was intercepted in Kenya with the help of security agencies.
