The supreme court has affirmed the nullification of the participation of Andy Uba in the November 2021 Anambra governorship election.

A five-member panel of justices unanimously held that the All Progressives Congress candidate did not emerge through a valid primary.

The court held that the primary which produced Senator Uba was conducted in breach of the APC’s guidelines.

An aspirant in the primary, George Moghalu, had earlier challenged the primary election at a Federal High Court.

He sought N122.5 million in damages, including N22.5 million paid for the expression of interest and nomination forms, and N100 million for breach of contract.

In December 2021, the court held that the primary that produced Senator Uba was not validly conducted because it was in breach of the electoral act and the APC’s constitution.

On 23 February, the Appeal Court upheld the decision of the Federal High Court.
The decision of both courts has now been affirmed by the Supreme Court.
