The Ogoni Youth Federation has condemned the involvement of lawmakers from the Ogoni region of Rivers State in the planned impeachment of the state governor, Siminialayi Fubara.
Speaking on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire, the President General of the Ogoni Youth Federation, Legborsi Yamaabana, says the body initiated a recall of the lawmakers representing the Ogoni people in the Rivers State House of Assembly for failing to consult their constituents before engaging in the impeachment move.
Yamaabana asserts the constituents' right to recall their representatives due to lost confidence, criticising the lawmakers' role in the crisis as "gross misconduct" and an attempt to usurp the people's mandate.
The President General of the Ogoni Youth, also assures that effective measures have been put in place to ensure the success of the ongoing recall process.
Earlier, the political crisis in the state saw a section of the state Assembly complex set on fire in an alleged effort to halt the impeachment proceeding of the state governor and the suspension of four lawmakers.
