As the world continues to battle with climate change, the preparedness of Nigeria and the African continent as a whole for this fast approaching reality has been called to question by an attendee of the recently concluded  Conference of the Parties (COP26) - a global climate summit - in Glasgow

NJ Ayuk, CEO Centurion Law Group, says Africa has been left behind as the developed countries make plans to battle climate change.

Speaking to Joyce Onyemuwa on the Sunny Side, Ayuk expressed his fears for what is to come.

"I don't care about what happens in the oil and gas sector in Australia, I'm more concerned about what happens in Africa," Ayuk said.

"At COP26, the language and the ability to not pay attention to African leaders who were more busy with their estacodes and hotels which they were going to stay than actually getting into the room to negotiate."

"It's something which our generation has to really think what the future is, I'm really scared for the young people," he added.

Expatiating further on the plans of the first world countries for Africa, Ayuk warned that the foreign aid promised should not be relied on.

"600million people with no access to electricity, 900million with no access to clean cooking and then you come to this same continent and tell them to shut off and turn off their oil and gas because we will give you foreign aid."

"I don't believe this aid money is coming cos in 2009, the $100bn promised for climate mitigation to emerging countries was never paid."

"If you cannot do for yourself what you expect others to do for you, then you are in big trouble," he added.
