Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Dr. Paulina Dariah shedding light on the debilitating nature of endometriosis

Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Dr. Paulina Dariah has highlighted the importance of raising awareness about endometriosis to foster a better understanding of its symptoms and the profound impact it can have on women's lives.

Dr. Dariah recently appeared as a guest on Nigeria Info's health programme, Mind, Body, and Soul with Constance Iroele-Mega, where she shed light on the debilitating nature of endometriosis. She firmly believes that dismissing menstrual pain as an excuse demonstrates ignorance.

Dr. Dariah further emphasizes that endometriosis has long been a source of physical and emotional pain for countless women. Tragically, some women face accusations of malingering when they attempt to express the severity of their symptoms. The medical expert explained that the pain can be so severe that it disrupts a woman's daily life, and in extreme cases, some may even end up in psychiatric wards.

“A lot of women get accused of malingering; some even end up in the psychiatric ward,” she said.

To address this issue, Dr. Dariah advocates for increased support and awareness, as women who lack understanding and support often suffer silently.

“It tends to ruin the lives of women especially if you’re not in a supportive environment,” she noted.

If you suspect you may have endometriosis, Dr. Dariah advises seeking proper medical attention as there are available treatments that can help manage the pain and enhance the overall quality of life.
