In a stunning display of rhetoric, Ruth Okorocha defeated Hameed Olarenwaju in the second group B debate at the ongoing 'I Beg To Differ' Tournament of Champions.

This victory comes as a redemption for Ruth, who lost her previous debate to Ramadan Oladipupo.

The topic of today's debate was "Traditional Rulers Have Outlived Their Purpose," and both debaters put forward compelling arguments.

Ruth, who opposed the motion, argued that traditional rulers still have an important role to play in promoting peace, due to the respect they command within their communities.

She also highlighted that traditional rulers are essential in preserving cultural heritage and traditions.

In contrast, Hameed took the proposing stance, arguing that traditional rulers have lost their relevance in modern society, particularly since they have become political tools.

He suggested that modern-day institutions have replaced traditional rulers in contemporary discourse.

Ultimately, the judges declared Ruth the winner of the debate, setting up a crucial match between Hameed and Ramadan Oladipupo next week.

Hameed will need to win this match to progress to the next stage of the tournament.

The group stages of the student debate tournament will continue on Wednesday at 4 pm, with Emmanuella Nnadi and Fabian Chigbundu going head-to-head in group C.
