The Commander of the Nigeria Navy Ship (NNS) Victory, Commodore Rotimi Oderemi, says the Warri Channel, adjoining creeks, and islands are now under 24 hour naval surveillance.

Commodore Oderemi made the remark on Wednesday in Calabar during a visit from the Cross River Council, the leadership and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

In order to protect genuine water users such as fishermen and craftsmen, the commander noted that the navy has also put in place mobile patrols surrounding the Eastern Naval Command.

“I am proud to tell you that the entire warri channel, the adjoining creeks and islands now enjoy 24hours naval presence.

“This is to ensure that the waterways are safe for users. It is also to ensure that the waterways are uncomfortable for criminals and economic saboteurs,” he said.

Commodore Oderemi commended NUJ for their willingness to work with the Navy to publicize its accomplishments and operations.
