The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) says its members will neither forfeit the eight-month salaries held by the government while they were on strike nor the half salary withheld in October.

ASUU Zonal Coordinator, Professor Abdukadir Muhammed told Wazobia Kano FM’s ‘We Tori Dommot’, Monday, that the union will press for its members’ salaries.

He accused the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige of personalizing ASUU’s struggles while stressing that the federal government’s no-work-no-pay policy should not apply to academics.

Professor Muhammed advised Nigerians to prevail on the government to suppress its ego.

He also said that ASUU’s National Executive Council will give the public an update on the salary issue after its Monday meeting at the University of Abuja.

He dismissed the new Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA).

Professor Muhammed pointed out that members of the union formed towards the end of ASUU’s eight-month strike did not work throughout the period of the industrial action.
