The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of the governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed.

The court dismissed the appeal by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the state, Sadique Abubakar, who alleged massive non-compliance with the Electoral Act during the 2023 poll.

The apex court ruled that the appeal was devoid of merit.

The court also upturned the ruling of the Appeal Court that sacked the governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf.

On 17 November 2023, the lower court upheld the ruling of the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal that 165,663 of Yusuf's votes were invalid because the ballots were unsigned and unstamped by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

However, Justice John Okoro of the Supreme Court ordered that all the ballot papers from which the appellant votes were deducted should be restored to the governor.

He said the controversial papers contained INEC's logo and the coat of arms as prescribed by the provisions of the Electoral Act.

He also held that the issue of party membership was a party's internal affairs.
