The University of Abuja chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its 82-day strike.
ASUU chairperson, Dr. Sylvanus Ugoh declared the strike's suspension at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, shortly after the union's congress.
The union's interaction with the institution's new Governing Council, which pledged to consider and act upon all of their demands, was the primary condition upon which Ugoh conditioned the suspension of the strike.
ASUU initiated an indefinite walkout on 2 May, in response to violations of its bylaws, including staff appointments and promotions made without a governing council.
The union also listed illegal advertisements for the vice-chancellor position and hiring practices as reasons for the strike.
