It was a weekend of accusations and denials, in some cases.

The Department of State Services (DSS) accused unnamed persons and groups of planning a “campaign of calumnyagainst it and the federal government over the arrest of the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike also accused unnamed persons of poisoning him in 2018.

And the military denied the accusation of former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo that military officials were behind crude oil theft in Nigeria.

But it was also a weekend of sporting victories, with the Super Eagles qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Sierra Leone 3-2 in Monrovia.

Spain won the UEFA Nations League with a 5-4 defeat of Croatia on penalties after the full-time failed to produce a goal.
