The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of seven persons in an accident that occurred at the Calabar Carnival on Tuesday.
Twenty-nine others, including five children, were injured.
The Sector Commander of the Corps, Maikano Hassan said the accident happened in front of the Jumat Mosque during the Bikers Parade.
Witnesses say a sedan lost control and rammed into onlookers on the fifth day of the annual carnival.
Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River has expressed sadness over the incident and directed security agencies to arrest the driver of the car.
He also ordered the discontinuation of the Bikers Parade in honor of the victims of the accident.
